Our Angel Friends

In memory of our little whippet friends
who are now angels...

Whenever you visit my grave,
say to yourselves with regret
but also with happiness in your hearts
at the remembrance of my long happy life with you:

"Here lies one who loved us and whom we loved".

No matter how deep my sleep I shall hear you
and not all the power of death can keep my spirit
from wagging a grateful tail.

maddi
2003 - 2010

Maddi is survived by her loving guardians, Teresa and Patra and her whippet room-mate, Icey.
She was preceeded in death by her Siamese cat, Rajah and Australian Shepard Keyto.
Maddi was adopted from Whippet Rescue in 2006.
She is dearly missed... and was greatly loved.

Maddi blew into our lives on a spring breeze in Feb 2006. We were told she did not like to play. She didn’t like to walk. She didn’t like cats. She got sick in cars. From the very beginning, she set out to prove those words false. She loved playing Frisbee with a passion and played daily. At the end, when she was too sick to play, she insisted on going out for a try and managed to catch the Frisbee once and then walked a lap around the yard. As for walking, it was a morning ritual whether we needed it or not and she followed us through the house until we got the leash out. She loved going with me everywhere, long trips, errands, to the dog park – it did not matter. She wanted to go. She wiggled her way into our hearts, as well as thoroughly, as under our covers.

She developed an auto immune disease two years ago and nearly died then. We nursed her at home staying with her around the clock and told her that we were not ready for her to leave and that she had to get better. We were blessed and answered with 2 more years of joy and companionship. In Sept 2009, we discovered a large cancerous lump in her groin. It was removed and we started chemo therapy. Then her auto immune disease reared its head and we spent months trying to strengthen her liver so she could resume chemotherapy. We lost the battle Feb 13, 2010. Maddi died in the arms of her family surrounding her with love.

She touched our hearts and we miss her dearly. Teresa, Patra and Icey

Weedles

Weedles was with us such a short time,
but we all loved her instantly.
It is hard to imagine the discomfort
this sweet girl endured for so long...
She never complained…
Run free, sweet girl.
Run without pain.
Run free

Our Friend
Lightening Jack
December 27, 1996 - January 10, 2008

Jack
is, once again, with his
trusted buddy and brother,
Twister
who sprinted to heaven in 2006.
The boys are surely romping together
chasing bunnies in the clouds.
Thank you, Jack, for teaching us love
and humanity and how adopting a senior whippet
is one of the most rewarding times of a human's life.

Hugs to Kevin, Amy, the kids and Ruby whippet
for not being afraid to adopt an old guy and
giving Jack the wonderful last two years of his life.

Our Friend
Princess Zelda Mae

Zelda is dancing on a cloud !

February 3, 2007: Princess Zelda Mae passed away this morning in New Hampshire, USA.

She was diagnosed with chylothorax http://marvistavet.com/html/chylothorax.html on January 16, 2007.
We had decided not to do surgery on her since it is a very invasive procedure with a low recovery rate.
We did everything we could to help her fight it but it was just too much for her.
She had her chest drained for the third time last Wednesday
and we knew she was getting worse as they drained out 2 liters of fluid,
twice as much as the last two times.
Her breathing was becoming more and more labored
and she developed a cough and we could tell she was starting to suffer.

She had a last walk around the backyard before the snow Friday
and sniffed all her favorite spots, watched James run like a maniac and even tried to run herself.
She spent her last night lounging by the fire and slept in bed with me and Rob.
We made the horribly difficult decision to let her go before she was in too much pain.
We know that she was a happy girl right up to the end.
We are grateful for the memories we have of her - she was one of kind!
I'm sure there will be more whippets in and out of lives in the future
and they are all special in their own way, but none will compare to Princess Zelda Mae.

Robert, Jill and whippet brother, James
