Tina Leana is a young female Whippet, estimated to be about
two years old. Tina was hit by a car on Christmas Eve, 2004.

She was transported to the animal emergency hospital by an anonymous good samaritan. Since she was considered a stray, Tina had to spend a week at Multnomah County Animal Control Hospital on a pain patch before Whippet Rescue and Placement obtained custody.

When MCAC acquired Tina, she had a broken pelvis and fractured pubic & ishium bone. Dr. Rene Laborde wired her little pelvis back together for Whippet Rescue.

Thank you, Dr. Laborde !

Tina was released to foster care at Free Range Whippets. She was confined to a very comfy crate for four weeks while she recovered. She was carried outside to potty. She would only potty on green grass !!!

Hours after hip surgery December 2004

She was a very patient - patient and made the job of fostering her a labor of love.

Once Tina completed the four-weeks of confinement, she was walked on a leash for several weeks. This is for the sake of continued recovery as Whippets can run as fast as 35 miles per hour. Hopefully at some point her bones will be strong enough to play like a normal Whippet girl. Before Tina could be adopted, she also needed to be spayed and have her vaccinations updated. More surgery !

Thanks to all the "well-wishers" and prospective adoption folks, who wrote and called. She is a very lucky girl to have so many friends across the country & Hawaii. Tina was adopted by the Tang Family of Washington State in March 2005.

Tina continues to make great strides in her recovery. She is using her hind leg to stand up. She goes out to potty and will only potty on grass. She has a great appetite and loves squeaky toys. She is getting to mingle a little with the residents and guests at Free Range Whippets, and seems to be enjoying the company of all. She is a very happy girl. She has a check up in two weeks. She has a healthy appetite and is getting stronger every day. Thanks to neighbor, Nurse Bette, for coming over and helping to care for Tina.

Tina was spayed and she is recovering well. She does not like wearing the satellite dish on her head!

Tina has recovered nicely from her spay. Her hip is mending well and muscle is coming back to her leg. She has a slight hitch in her gitty up, but is moving about very well. She is a high spirited and brave little girl

March 5, 2005
Tina went home with her new family. Her name is now Vivi and she lives with a very handsome whippet boy, named Louie. She is a very happy girl.
